April showers sound soft and light to me, whereas <em>Les giboul\u00e9es de mars<\/em> sound unpleasantly wet. <\/p>\n<p>April showers are showers, often heavy, that fall in Spring, especially in March and April, in the northern hemisphere, particularly in the UK and Ireland, and also in France. They occur when the jet stream starts to move north in early spring letting strong winds and rain, and sometimes sleet and snow, sweep in from the Atlantic [<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/April_showers_%28weather_phenomenon%29\">source<\/a>]. <\/p>\n<p>The word <em>giboul\u00e9e<\/em> \/\u0292i.bu.le\/ means sudden, short shower often mixed with snow or sleet, or in French &#8216;<em>Pluie soudaine et br\u00e8ve souvent m\u00eal\u00e9e de neige ou de gr\u00e9sil.<\/em>&#8216; [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediadico.com\/dictionnaire\/definition\/giboulee\/1\">source<\/a>]. It&#8217;s etymology is uncertain and is possibly related to the Langue d&#8217;Oc words <em>giboulado<\/em> (shower), <em>gibourna<\/em> (to sizzle) and\/or <em>gibournado<\/em> (shower) [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnrtl.fr\/etymologie\/giboul%C3%A9e\">source<\/a>].
