{"id":685,"date":"2008-06-10T21:23:49","date_gmt":"2008-06-10T20:23:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/blog\/2008\/06\/10\/origins_of_the_celts\/"},"modified":"2008-06-10T21:23:49","modified_gmt":"2008-06-10T20:23:49","slug":"origins_of_the_celts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/bloggle\/?p=685","title":{"rendered":"Origins of the Celts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>http:\/\/thetranslatorscafe.wordpress.com\/2008\/06\/03\/celts-are-from-spain-says-professor\/&#8221;>An article I found recently questions the commonly-held belief that the original Celtic homeland was in central Europea around Hallstatt in what is now Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>In a theory based an extensive overview of the linguistic and archaeological evidence, Professor John Koch of the University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies proposes that a Celtic civilisation and culture first developed in the west of Europe in the Bronze Age rather than in central Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Inscriptions found on the Iberian peninsula and dating from 800 BC to 400 BC are in a Celtic language, Professor Koch believes.
