The lecture is entitled &#8220;Linguistic Human Rights: A Sociolinguistic Introduction&#8221; and covers many of the issues discussed in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/blog\/2007\/06\/12\/language-in-the-workplace\/\">recent post<\/a> about language use in the work place.<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of <a href=\"http:\/\/privatewww.essex.ac.uk\/~patrickp\/lhr\/lhrengonlywork.htm\">examples<\/a> of people being fired for speaking Spanish in places of work with English-only rules. In many cases these people were hired because of their ability to speak Spanish and English.
