The only Japanese haiku I can remember is:<\/p>\n<p>\u53e4\u6c60\u3084\u3000(furu ike ya)<br \/>\n\u86d9\u98db\u3073\u3053\u3080\u3000(kawazu tobikomu)<br \/>\n\u6c34\u306e\u97f3 (mizu no oto)<\/p>\n<p><em>An old pond<br \/>\na frog jumps in<br \/>\nsplash!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are many other English versions of this famous haiku by Matsuo Bash\u014d (\u677e\u5c3e\u82ad\u8549) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bopsecrets.org\/gateway\/passages\/basho-frog.htm\">here<\/a>. It&#8217;s amazing the number of different ways such a seemingly simple poem can be translated.<\/p>\n<p>Haiku are not only written in Japanese. Non-Japanese haiku don&#8217;t always have exactly 17 syllables, but they usually a similar structure to the Japanese ones. Here are a few examples I came across recently in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk\/corpus\/search\/document.php?documentid=129\">Scots<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Reid cluds lemin<br \/>\nat keek-o-day &#8211; refleckit<br \/>\nin the cray glaur<\/p>\n<p><em>Red clouds glowing<br \/>\nat sunrise &#8211; reflected<br \/>\nin the pigsty mud<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hauf-road up the glen<br \/>\na daurk wee lochan &#8211;<br \/>\na cran tentie<\/p>\n<p><em>Halfway up the glen<br \/>\na dark little loch &#8211;<br \/>\na heron watchful<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Birlin doon<br \/>\nthe rowth o gean blume<br \/>\ntaigles a bummer<\/p>\n<p><em>Swirling down<br \/>\nthe plenteous cherry blossom<br \/>\ndelays a bee <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Do you know of any haiku in other languages?
