{"id":2737,"date":"2010-04-15T16:47:20","date_gmt":"2010-04-15T15:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/blog\/?p=2737"},"modified":"2010-04-15T16:47:20","modified_gmt":"2010-04-15T15:47:20","slug":"chef-io","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/bloggle\/?p=2737","title":{"rendered":"Chef-io"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday while listening to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/radiocymru\/safle\/blas\/index.shtml\"><em>Blas<\/em><\/a>, a cookery programme on Radio Cymru, I heard one of the contributors use the verb &#8220;chef-io&#8221; [\u02c8\u0283ef\u026a\u0254] in a sentence something like &#8220;<em>Dw i wedi<\/em> chef-<em>io ers X flywyddyn<\/em>&#8221; (I&#8217;ve been chefing for X years).<\/p>\n<p>This struck me as quite a useful verbing of a noun and is also possible in English, though I&#8217;ve never heard this usage before. You could also say &#8220;Dw i wedi gweithio fel chef ers X flywyddyn&#8221; \/ &#8220;I&#8217;ve been working as a chef for X years&#8221;, but might be a bit too long-winded.<\/p>\n<p>There are Welsh words for chef, by the way &#8211; <em>pen-cogydd<\/em> (head cook) and <em>prif gogydd<\/em> (main cook).<\/p>\n<p>Another interesting verbing I heard recently was in a programme about mountain climbing in which the mountaineers talked about summiting, i.e. reaching the summit of the mountain.
