Although Finnish vocabulary is mostly unlike any other language I know, you can find plenty of internal connections like this.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, <strong>house<\/strong> in Finnish is <strong>talo<\/strong> [\u02c8t\u0251lo], which comes from the Proto-Finnic <em>*taloi<\/em> (farm, house). It is cognate with the Estonian <strong>talu<\/strong> (farm) and the Northern Sami <strong>d\u00e1llu<\/strong> (house, farm) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/talo#Finnish\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The word <strong>asunto<\/strong> [a\u02c8sunto] also exists in Spanish and Galician. In Spanish it means matter, issue, (romantic) affair, or business, [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/asunto#Spanish\">source<\/a>] while in Galician it means matter, issue or business [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/asunto#Galician\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>It comes from the Latin <em>ass\u016bmptus<\/em> (received, adopted, accepted), from <em>ass\u016bm\u014d<\/em> (I take up, receive, adopt or accept), from <em>ad-<\/em> (to) and <em>s\u016bm\u014d<\/em> (I take, catch, assume) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/assumptus#Latin\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Words from the same roots include <strong>assume<\/strong> in English, <strong>assumer<\/strong> (to embrace, accept, own) in French, <strong>assumere<\/strong> (to take on, employ, consume) in Italian, <strong>asumir<\/strong> (to assume, take on) in Spanish [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/assumo#Latin\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Finnish word I learnt recently is asua [\u02c8\u0251su\u0251], which means to live, reside or dwell.
