Apparently in Chaucer&#8217;s time you might have said that you had <strong>slept like a swine<\/strong>, or whatever that was in Middle English [<a href=\"https:\/\/idioms.thefreedictionary.com\/sleep+like+a+top\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/omniglot\/34225175231\/in\/photolist-U9mYd8-QwWtSC\" title=\"Curled up sleeping cat\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/4191\/34225175231_997aa20a6b_z.jpg\" alt=\"Curled up sleeping cat\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"><\/a><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>If you search for &#8220;sleeping&#8221; on Flickr, as I just did, you mainly get photos of sleeping cats and sleeping babys, so maybe you could also say that you <strong>slept like a cat<\/strong>. The cat in the photo above is my sister&#8217;s cat Fletcher, by the way.<\/p>\n<p>In Welsh you might sleep like a hog \/ wild boar (<strong>cysgu fel twrch<\/strong>), or like a hedge (fel clawdd), like a sow (<strong>fel hwch<\/strong>), like a pig (<strong>fel mochyn<\/strong>), like a small rope\/cord (<strong>fel cordyn<\/strong>), like a nail (<strong>fel hoelen<\/strong>), like a stone (<strong>fel carreg<\/strong>) or like a mole (<strong>fel gwadd<\/strong>) [<a href=\"https:\/\/geiriaduracademi.org\/\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>In Scottish Gaelic you could say <strong>bha cadal nam maigheach orm<\/strong> (I slept like a hare), and <strong>cadal nam maigheach ort!<\/strong>, or literally &#8220;sleep of the hare on you&#8221;, is how you say &#8220;sweet dreams, sleep tight!&#8221; or something similar [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.faclair.com\/\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>In French you might sleep like a dormouse (<strong>dormir comme un loir<\/strong>), like a marmot (<strong>comme une marmotte<\/strong>), like a stump (<strong>comme une soche<\/strong>), like a baby (<strong>comme un b\u00e9b\u00e9<\/strong>) or with closed fists (<strong>\u00e0 poings ferm\u00e9s<\/strong>) [<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.reverso.net\/english-french\/sleep+like+a\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>What about in other languages?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you have slept well, you might say that you have slept like a baby, like a log, like a rock, like a top or like a lamb.
