It comes from the Italian word <strong>polizza<\/strong> (policy, bill, voucher), from the Medieval Latin <em>apodissa<\/em> (receipt for money), from the Byzantine Greek <em>*\u1f00\u03c0\u03cc\u03b4\u03b5\u03b9\u03be\u03b1<\/em> (*ap\u00f3deixa), from Ancient Greek <em>\u1f00\u03c0\u03cc\u03b4\u03b5\u03b9\u03be\u03b9\u03c2<\/em> (ap\u00f3deixis &#8211; proof, publication, demonstration). This probably comes from <strong>fondre<\/strong> (to melt (down), smelt, dwindle), from the Old French <em>fondre<\/em>, from the Latin <em>fundere<\/em> (to melt), from <em>fund\u014d<\/em> (I melt), from the Proto-Italic <em>*hund\u014d<\/em> (pour out), from the Proto-Indo-European <em>*\u01f5\u02b0ewd-<\/em> (to pour) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/fonte#French\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The word <strong>font<\/strong>, as in &#8220;a receptacle in a church for holy water, especially one used in baptism&#8221;, comes from the Latin <em>f\u014dns\/fontis<\/em> (fountain), possibly from the Proto-Indo-European <em>*d\u02b0enh\u2082-<\/em> (to flow)  [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/font#Etymology_1\">source<\/a>].
