A word for to teach is <strong>onderwijzen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A teacher in a secondary school (middelbare school) is a <strong>leraar<\/strong> or <strong>lerares<\/strong>, they <strong>leren<\/strong> (teach) and they might be found in a <strong>leraarskamer \/ lerarenkamer<\/strong> (staffroom).<\/p>\n<p>Other words for education are <strong>opleiding<\/strong> and <strong>opvoeding<\/strong>. <strong>Opleiding<\/strong> means education, training or a programme, and comes from <strong>opleiden<\/strong> (to lead up; to bring up, educate; to coach, train), from <strong>op<\/strong> (up) and <strong>leiden<\/strong> (to lead) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/opleiding\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opvoeding<\/strong> means education (at home), upbringing, raising (children) and comes from <strong>opvoeden<\/strong> (to raise, to bring up (a child)), from <strong>op<\/strong> (up) and <strong>voeden<\/strong> (to feed) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/opvoeding\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The English word <strong>education<\/strong> comes from the Middle French <em>\u00e9ducation<\/em> (education, upbringing), from Latin <em>\u0113duc\u0101ti\u014d<\/em> (breeding, bringing up, rearing), from <em>\u0113d\u016bc\u014d<\/em> (I lead, draw, take out, raise up), from <strong>ex<\/strong> (out, away, up) and <strong>d\u016bc\u014d<\/strong> (I lead, guide, conduct) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/education\">source<\/a>].
