Or in other words, do you prefer warmer temperatures, and turn up the heating when it gets cold?<\/p>\n<p>If so, then you could call yourself a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/soundfiles\/blog\/koukleum.mp3\">koukleum<\/a> [\u02c8k\u0251u\u032fkl\u00f8\u02d0m], a Dutch word meaning a &#8220;person who is often\/easily cold, person bothered by the cold a lot&#8221; [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/koukleum\">source<\/a>], or a &#8216;shivery type&#8217; [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.bab.la\/dictionary\/dutch-english\/koukleum\">source<\/a>]. It comes from <strong>kou<\/strong> (a low temperature situation) and <strong>kleumen<\/strong> (to be stiff with cold) [<a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/koukleum\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Related words include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>koukleumen<\/strong> = to suffer in low temperatures<\/li>\n<li><strong>kleumen<\/strong> = to be stiff with cold<\/li>\n<li><strong>kleumer<\/strong> = a person who is prone to cold; a cold or untrustworthy person<\/li>\n<li><strong>kleumerig<\/strong> = stiffened from the cold<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The German word <strong>Frostbeule<\/strong> has a similar meaning to <strong>koukleum<\/strong>, and also means frostbite or chilblain [<a href=\"https:\/\/typischduits.wordpress.com\/2017\/01\/25\/frostbeule\/amp\/\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>koukleum<\/strong> might suffer from <strong>cryophobia<\/strong> (an abnormal fear of ice or frost;  a morbid fear of freezing) [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefreedictionary.com\/cryophobia\">source<\/a>], and might be a <strong>cryophobic<\/strong>, which is the nearest English word I can find.<\/p>\n<p>The opposite of <strong>cryophobic<\/strong> is <strong>cryophilic<\/strong>, which usually refers to plants or animals and means &#8220;having an affinity for or thriving at low temperatures; able to thrive at low temperatures&#8221; [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefreedictionary.com\/cryophilic\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/psytechdaily.com\/20-of-people-have-a-genetic-mutation-that-provides-superior-resilience-to-cold\/\">this article<\/a>, about 20% of people have a genetic mutation which makes them better able to resist cold temperatures and to live in cold climates.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not a <strong>koukleum<\/strong>, and in fact prefer cooler temperatures.
