{"id":18423,"date":"2019-10-19T17:32:12","date_gmt":"2019-10-19T17:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/bloggle\/?p=18423"},"modified":"2019-10-19T17:32:20","modified_gmt":"2019-10-19T17:32:20","slug":"gibberish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/bloggle\/?p=18423","title":{"rendered":"Gibberish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When someone is talking in a way that doesn&#8217;t make sense to you, is using specialist jargon, is speaking a foreign language you don&#8217;t know, or is using made-up words, you might say they&#8217;re talking <strong>gibberish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Other words for gibberish include gobbledygook, claptrap, jibber, jabber, jibber-jabber, folderol, twaddle, hogwash, bunkum, blabla, humbug, mumbo-jumbo, jargon, babble, double Dutch and nonsense [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gibberish\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gibberish<\/strong> is possibly onomatopoeic in origin, imitating to the sound of chatter, or from the the Irish word <em>gob<\/em> (mouth)  [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/gibberish\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>In French equivalents of gibberish include charabia, galimatias, amphigouri, blabla and foutaise. To talk gibberish is dire du charabia, baragouiner or bredouiller [<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.reverso.net\/english-french\/gibberish\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>You can hear a bit of gobbledygook in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/radio\/?p=856\">latest episode of the Radio Omniglot Podcast<\/a>, which I recorded yesterday, and edited today. My friends and I sometimes talk in gobbledygook just for a laugh.
