Wait till the matutolypea subsides.&#8221; [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macmillandictionary.com\/buzzword\/entries\/matutolypea.html\">source<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>Matutolypea comes from the Latin <em>M\u0101t\u016bta<\/em>, the Roman goddess of morning or dawn [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Matuta\">source<\/a>] (pictured above), and the Greek <em>\u03bb\u1fe0\u0301\u03c0\u03b7 &#8211; l\u00fap\u0113<\/em> (sadness, suffering, affliction) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/%CE%BB%CF%8D%CF%80%CE%B7#Ancient_Greek\">source<\/a>], so could also be translated as &#8220;dawn saddness&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I learnt this word from an episode of the podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/podtail.com\/podcast\/something-rhymes-with-purple\/matutolypea\/\">Something Rhymes with Purple<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those you suffer from matutolypea might be said to have <strong>got up on the wrong side of the bed<\/strong> or <strong>woken on the wrong side of the bed<\/strong>. According to a superstition that dates back to the Romans, the wrong side of the bed is the left side, as the left is associated with bad luck and is decidely <em>sinister<\/em> in Latin. The Roman emperor Augustus Caeser apparently always got up on the right side of bed beacuse of this superstition [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phrases.org.uk\/bulletin_board\/6\/messages\/909.html\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammar-monster.com\/sayings_proverbs\/get_out_of_bed_on_the_wrong_side.htm\">Grammar Monster<\/a>, &#8220;an ancient superstition that evil spirits lay on a certain side of the bed. A person who wakes up and gets out the &#8220;wrong&#8221; side of the bed disturbs the evil spirits and attracts their wrath, putting the person in a foul mood.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Even though I get up on the left side of my bed every morning, as the right side is against a wall, I rarely suffer from matutolypea.<\/p>\n<p>Are there any words, phrases or sayings in other languages about being miserable in the morning?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you suffer from matutolypea?
