For example, in Swedish a team is <strong>ett lag<\/strong> (neuter) and a law is <strong>en lag<\/strong> (common gender).<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t come across any other homographs like this in Swedish, but there probably are others. Do you known any more in Swedish or other languages?<\/p>\n<p>I found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thoughtco.com\/doubly-gendered-basics-3079264\">some in Spanish<\/a>, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>el coma = coma; la coma = comma<\/li>\n<li>el ma\u00f1ana = future; la ma\u00f1ana = morning<\/li>\n<li>el moral = blackberry bush; la moral = morale, morality<\/li>\n<li>el papa = pope; la papa = potato<\/li>\n<li>el pez = fish; la pez = tar, pitch<\/li>\n<li>el tema = subject; la tema = obsession<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other Swedish words I sometimes get muddled include: <strong>v\u00e4g<\/strong> (path, road) and <strong>v\u00e4gg<\/strong> (wall), and <strong>svart<\/strong> (black, dark) and <strong>sv\u00e5rt<\/strong> (hard).<\/p>\n<p>So it&#8217;s not just gender that matters &#8211; accents and spelling are also important.<\/p>\n<p>How do you learn the genders of nouns in languages with grammatical gender?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In languages with grammatical gender, such as Spanish and Swedish, gender matters and can sometimes lead to misundertandings if you get it wrong.
