[<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Reconstruction:Proto-Slavic\/xl%C4%9Bb%D1%8A\">source<\/a>]. <em>*hlaibaz<\/em> is also the root of the English word loaf, the German <em>Laib<\/em> (loaf), and words for loaf in other Germanic languages [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic\/hlaibaz\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>However, in Slovenian the word for bread is <strong>kruh<\/strong>, which means circle or ring in Czech, although the Czech word probably comes from a different root [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/kruh\">source<\/a>]. It comes from the Proto-Slavic <em>*krux\u044a<\/em> (chunk, bread), which comes from <em>*krews<\/em> (crush, break) [<a href=\"https:\/\/ru.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/*krux%D1%8A\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The bread in the photo is a type of Slovenian potato bread known as <em>krompirjev kruh<\/em>.
