It comes from the Old Irish <em>benn<\/em> (peak, point, pinnacle), from the Proto-Celtic <em>*benno-<\/em> (peak, top).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sgurr<\/strong> [sgu\u02d0r\u02e0 \/ sgur\u02e0\u0259] = high pointed hill, peak; cliff, craig.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stob<\/strong> [sd\u0254b] =  point, pinnacle; stake; pointed iron stick; prickle, thorn; stump; sharp-pointed stick; to prick, prod.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meall<\/strong> [mjaul\u032a\u02e0 \/ mjal\u032a\u02e0\u0259\u0263] = mound, round hill; pile, heap; lump, clot, mass; (rain) shower; bout. It comes from the Old Irish <em>mell<\/em> (a ball, sphere, round mass; a round protuberance, swelling).<\/p>\n<p><strong>St\u00f9c<\/strong> [stu\u02d0xg] = little hill jutting out from a greater, steep on one side and rounded on the other; cliff; pinnacle of a roof; horn; scowl; rock; lump; conical steep rock; precipice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>St\u00f2r<\/strong> [sd\u0254\u02d0r] = steep, high cliff; broken or decayed tooth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coire<\/strong> [k\u0264r\u02b2\u0259] = circular hollow surrounded by hills; mountain dell; whirlpool.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cnoc<\/strong> \/kr\u0254\u0303xg\/ = hill: small hill, hillock, knoll; chilblain. It comes from the the Old Irish <em>cnocc<\/em> (hill, lump, stump), from Proto-Celtic <em>*knokkos<\/em> (hill).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cruachan<\/strong> [kru\u0259xan] = conical hill; hip.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mam<\/strong> [maum] = rounded hill\/mountain; mountain gap\/pass; boil; bulge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cnap<\/strong> [kr\u00e3hb] = small lumpy hill; knob, lump, protrusion; block; boss, node; swelling; button; potato; gust of wind; thump, thud. It is a borrowing from the Old Norse <em>knappr<\/em> (knob, stud, button), or the Old English <em>cn\u00e6p<\/em> (top of a hill, button, brooch).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tiumpan<\/strong> [t\u02b2\u0169\u02d0mban] = one-sided hill; timbrel, tabret; tambourine; backside, bum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Binnean<\/strong> [bi\u0272an] = high conical hill; apex, high point; pinnacle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cruachag<\/strong> [kru\u0259xag] small round hill; small pile\/stack; small clamp (stack).<\/p>\n<p><strong>D\u00f9nan<\/strong> [du\u02d0nan] = small hill; small fortress; dunghill; midden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Torr<\/strong> [t\u0254\u02d0r\u02e0] = hill, mountain of an abrupt or conical form, lofty hill; Eminence; mound, large heap.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monadh<\/strong> [m\u0254n\u0259\u0263] = mountain (covered with moors); high-lying moorland; expanse of heather.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sliabh<\/strong> [\u0283\u028ei\u0259v] = hillside, slope; mountain.
