In Russian the words for to play and game come from the same root: <strong>\u0438\u0433\u0440\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong> (to play) and <strong>\u0438\u0433\u0440\u0430<\/strong> (game). To play a game is <strong>\u0438\u0433\u0440\u0430\u0442\u044c \u0432 \u0438\u0433\u0440\u0443<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I already knew the verb <strong>\u0438\u0433\u0440\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/strong>, but didn&#8217;t know that the word for a game was similar, until today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0438\u0433\u0440\u0430\u0301\u0442\u044c<\/strong> means to play; to act, to perform; to gamble; (of a storm) to rage; (of wine) to sparkle. It comes from the Proto-Slavic <em>*j\u044cgra<\/em> (play, game).<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0438\u0433\u0440\u0430\u0301<\/strong> means a game; a sport which is played; play (for amusement); acting, performance; role-playing; playing (a musical instrument).
