{"id":13903,"date":"2017-04-19T21:22:26","date_gmt":"2017-04-19T20:22:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/blog\/?p=13903"},"modified":"2024-06-01T14:42:32","modified_gmt":"2024-06-01T14:42:32","slug":"londons-euston","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/bloggle\/?p=13903","title":{"rendered":"London&#8217;s Euston"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week when I was waiting on Bangor station for the train to London, I heard announcements that referred to the London station that trains from Bangor go to as &#8220;<strong>London&#8217;s Euston<\/strong>&#8220;, rather than the usual <strong>London Euston<\/strong> or just <strong>Euston<\/strong>. I hadn&#8217;t heard it referred to in that way before so noticed it and thought it strange.<\/p>\n<p>Euston station was built on land owned by the Dukes of Grafton, and named after Euston Hall his ancestral home in Suffolk, near the village of Euston, a name first recorded in Domesday Book, and possibly of Anglo-Saxon origin, maybe from &#8220;Efe&#8217;s Tun&#8221; (Efe&#8217;s farmstead).<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of mainline railway stations in London that serve different parts of the country.
