According to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/%D0%BC%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B6%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B5#Russian\">Wikitionary<\/a> they are related: <em>\u043c\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0436\u0435\u043d\u043e\u0435<\/em> comes from <em>\u043c\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0437\u0438\u0442\u044c<\/em> (to freeze) from \u043c\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0437, which comes from the Proto-Slavic <em>*morz\u044a<\/em> (frost).<\/p>\n<p>Related words include:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u0437\u0430\u043c\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0437\u043e\u043a (zamorozok) = overnight freeze, cold snap (usually in late spring or early autumn, when days are warm)<br \/>\n&#8211; \u043c\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0437\u0438\u043b\u043a\u0430 (morozilka) = freezer<br \/>\n&#8211; \u043c\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0437\u043d\u044b\u0439 (moroznyj) = frosty<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ded_Moroz\">\u0414\u0435\u0434 \u041c\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0437<\/a> (Ded Mor\u00f3z) is the Slavic equivalent of Father Christmas \/ Santa Claus.
