{"id":10027,"date":"2014-05-21T11:12:06","date_gmt":"2014-05-21T11:12:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/blog\/?p=10027"},"modified":"2014-05-21T11:12:06","modified_gmt":"2014-05-21T11:12:06","slug":"im-full-thanks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omniglot.com\/bloggle\/?p=10027","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;m full \/ J&#8217;ai trop mang\u00e9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you&#8217;ve finished a meal and are asked if you&#8217;d like any more, in English you might decline the offer by saying &#8220;Thanks, but I&#8217;m full&#8221;; &#8220;No thanks, I&#8217;ve had plenty&#8221;; &#8220;No, I&#8217;d better not, thank you&#8221;; &#8220;Thanks, but I couldn&#8217;t eat another thing&#8221;; &#8220;No thanks, I&#8217;m stuffed&#8221;, or even &#8220;No thank you, I have had an elegant sufficiency and any more would be a superfluous indulgence.&#8221; Other ways to express this are discussed on <a href=\"http:\/\/english.stackexchange.com\/questions\/30734\/is-there-a-polite-alternative-to-no-thanks-im-full\">this page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In French you might say &#8220;<em>J&#8217;ai trop mang\u00e9<\/em>&#8221; (&#8220;I&#8217;ve eaten too much.&#8221;), &#8220;<em>Je suis rassasi\u00e9<\/em>&#8221; (I&#8217;m satisfied), or &#8220;<em>Je n&#8217;en peux plus<\/em>&#8221; (&#8220;I can&#8217;t [take] any more.&#8221;) . One phrase to avoid, at least in France, is the literal translation of &#8220;I&#8217;m full&#8221; &#8211; <em>Je suis plein<\/em> &#8211; which means I&#8217;m pregnant or I&#8217;m drunk.
