...Having had a Brazilian partner and having 2 half-Brazilian children doesn't hurt! Because of my personal and professional ties with Brazil spanning over 2 decades, I speak, read, and write Portuguese with a near-native fluency. I even fool Brazilians!

...The University allowed me to modify the curriculum focusing on respite care rather than conventional classroom teaching. Beginning with respite care 20 years ago, I have worked individually and in group settings like inclusive care homes with a wide variety of special needs clients. Autism, ADD, ADhD, Aspergers, Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Brain damage, Aperts Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy.

My undergraduate degrees are from Marylhurst University, where I completed a BA in Psychology, and a BA in Music, along with studies and practicums in music therapy. I've also been a private music instructor for 13+ years, working one-on-one with students from age 6 to 60.

...I am the parent of two adult children, one a college graduate and one currently attending college. I will start by saying that I have a special needs daughter, now 22. She is considered highly gifted, and has many of the social/emotional concerns that are associated with this: anxiety, depression, Asperger's, synesthesia, dyscalculia.
