...I taught my son to read by using the phonics rules and introducing him to the letters of the alphabet and their corresponding sounds. Then I showed him how to blend the sounds of a consonant, vowel, and consonant together to say a word. We slowly progressed through the word families (i.e., -at, -it) to practice and build his confidence and vocabulary.
