...My junior year I studied abroad at Duke's Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome. Abroad I was able to take a Latin class on Seneca, a Greek class on Homer's Iliad, and a history class on Rome in it's entirety. In Rome I was also able to perfect my Italian through very intense Italian immersion.

...Learning is a great opportunity to learn about yourself, too. I believe patience and humor get ideas across, and I like to build a student's confidence in him/herself. When teaching, I use text books and practices, but I also use lessons we can learn from daily life and your community.

...I started tutoring different students when I was in the 6th grade. My mother is currently a teacher and my grandfather is a retired professor, so education runs in the family. I enjoy tutoring so much, because it is humbling to see a student succeed and excel in something important.

...After graduating, and experiencing a number of small successes, I had the opportunity to try my hand at full-time teaching. I traveled to Wakayama, Japan, and taught for seven months at a small language arts college. There, I taught a group of eight students writing, literature, TOEFL, TOEIC, conversation, and debate.

...The most important thing is to determine the cause for a students difficulty in learning to read. Once this is done, I try the best way to remediate the difficulty. I say try, because sometimes the methods need to be tweaked or changed to meet the students' needs and make the experience successful and fun.
