...First, there needs a solid foundation - without that, the process will continue to break down and crumble, just like a set of building blocks. My approach with my students is to identify the missing blocks, or gaps, in their reading, writing, and language. Once the foundation is secured, then a student will begin to build upon each block and become a proficient reader.
