Darlene Y. ...Idioms are another area of speech which is very difficult for those speaking English as a second language. An example would be "it's raining cats and dogs" which means that it's raining very hard. This is an acquired English skill as I have 4 children (15 to 23), and they don't always understand idioms because they aren't use to using them.
