Boston motels

As a weary traveler driving along the highway, you'd like to stop and take rest at a reasonably priced accommodation. Staying at a fancy hotel may not appeal to you, as it would be beyond your budget. What option do you have A Motel!

What is A Motel?

The word motel is merely a combination of two words motor and hotel .

When more and more highways started criss-crossing the landscape of USA, the need arose to accommodate people cruising along for long distances. Such travelers would be easily able to merely drive into the courtyard, park their vehicle, and book a room. Thus, the merging of a motor court with hotel-like amenities, but minus the expensive rates, resulted in the emergence of the motel.

Main Features of a Motel

• It's exterior will resemble the alphabets L or U or I.

• There will be a space for parking vehicles directly in front of the rooms. Some motels today may have a nominal parking fee, but by and large it is free.

• A huge board at the entrance will display (maybe in neon lights) the name of the motel and room availability.

• A motel is generally single-storied, but could extend up to a second floor.

• You register at a front desk , which will generally be just that a small desk with a hand bell, which you use to summon the owner or manager. No fancy lobby beneath a huge chandelier!

• The owner or manager will usually be in a small office located immediately behind the desk.

• Once you pay in advance the room rates as per the number of days / nights you wish to stay, hell give you your room keys and give you directions to your room • no bell boys here!

• The rooms themselves comprise of a long row of cabin-type accommodation. Each one would comprise of space just enough for a bed and maybe a side table with drawers.

• The amenities in a motel room earlier used to include just the bare minimum- a bed and bath. No thick carpets, no plush furnishings, no television set.

• Today's motel will provide guests similar amenities as in a hotel, such as cable television, a refrigerator and an iron. In today's frenzied world of instant communication, access to the World Wide Web is also provided to all guests.

• Some motels also have a small pool, around which the rooms are arranged.

• A motel may or may not have dining facilities. It could sometimes be purely a place to stay at, perhaps minimum breakfast items to eat, or not even that. So if you wish to drive away those hunger pangs, you may have to go to a diner further away!

• Once you've completed your stay, simply hand back the room keys to the manager, and drive away! Of course, it is advisable to confirm check in and check out times, as rates will accordingly be charged.
