Wage withholding

Wage withholding is the reduction of part of the amount from the pay of the non-custodial parents. This action is taken either voluntarily or by the order of law. Withholding is done in order to fund the child support and meet with other expenses.

Wage withholding is the most effective way for the collection of child support and collecting insurance for the health of the child. This is the best way for collection of money for the welfare of the child. This money is utilized for the purpose of housing, health, clothes, and school supplies of the child. Child support missions are conducted to ensure full support to the child.

After the employee receives the notice of wage and earning assignment, he is required to deduct a specific amount from this salary monthly and submit it to the Court trustee in order to make the payment to the parent. Under Uniform Interstate Family Support Act employers are required to fulfill the out of state assignments as well. These assignments are given by the court which is signed by the judge or by Child Services Department. There is a possibility for the parent to modify the assignment.

There are two types of wage withholding orders carried out namely Wage Withholding for child support and National Medical Support Notice for medical coverage. In the Wage Withholding Order for child support, the with-held cash is sent to the child support agency. These agencies provide resources to the family of the employees. And the National Medical Support Notice requires the employees to enroll their children in the medical health care coverage.

The order usually comes from the Alaska Child Support Services Division. The complete information of the deduction to be made, the procedure to be followed and the place where the form is to be submitted is mentioned in the form. The employee is required to fill the form and dispatch it within 14 days, to the Child Support agency. The child can be enrolled in Medical support Notice as soon as he is through with the requirements of eligibility.

When the employees money is with-held by the employer, he is allowed to be charged with a specific amount every month for the same. If the employer does not withhold the cash, he is liable for the payment of penalties and interest.

If the employee quits the job because of the Wage Withhold order, the employer is required to inform the agency about the same. Personal details such as address, phone number of the employee are submitted to the Agency. Records of the withholding orders have to be maintained by the employer for three years by law. If the employee returns to back to the job then the with-held order is enforced on the employee. The employee has the option to write to the Child support agency about the administrative review. Until the Agency notifies it, the cash of employee is with-held by the employer.

The employer can combine the payment of all the employees in a single check and submit it. Details including the name of the employees, the amount and date to be withheld are required to be mentioned. The employer can also use the electronic fund transfer system if possible in order to speed up the process.
