Rare Book Auctions

A rare and complete copy of the First Folio of William Shakespeare's plays has sold for £2.8m at a Sotheby's auction. An anonymous London book dealer bought the book, one of about 40 complete copies known to exist.

There was no complete collection of Shakespeare's plays while he was alive. However, seven years after he died, a group of his friends got together to produce the folio. It's seen as a very important book, because of the 36 plays it contains, 18 had never been published before.
