...In my experience, I have found that the best way to help a student learn a new subject or concept is to be very enthusiastic and positive when presenting the material. Enthusiasm and positivity are necessary in addition, obviously, to a thorough knowledge of the subject at hand. I am very patient with my students and I feel this is very important for them to wrap their head around a concept.
