I did not realize my passion and gift in teaching until one of my engineer colleagues was having problems in meeting deadlines and was close to being put on a performance improvement plan. So I took the initiative to coach and mentor him. Through a trusting and candid dialogue, I determined that setting priorities was his performance challenge.

...I took geometry the following summer and Algebra II with Trigonometry during 8th grade. From 9th grade on I was called upon by friends in school to tutor them in algebra, and I rapidly became an accomplished algebra tutor during my high school years. In college I joined a Saturday program to teach middle and high school students algebra, gaining another 4 years experience.
