...As a tutor, I understand the frustration and difficulty students may face when bombarded with a series of incomprehensible words; the feeling is often times overwhelming. My responsibility is to help students understand that words are an important facet of daily life, and that we can interpret compositions in numerous ways. ...I teach reading through phonetics, using customized flashcards of called "phonograms". Once familiar enough with them, I bring a board game that uses the phonograms to help move the pieces along. Children like this game very much and often want to skip reading and spelling and just play the game.

...My specialty is math and science; however, I have a background in reading as well. The elementary school where I teach has a school-wide intervention program in place that requires all teachers, no matter what subject, to teach phonics and reading comprehension the last hour of every school day. I am willing and able to provide tutoring services for all children up to 6th grade.
