I am working on my PhD in Classics from the University of Pittsburgh, while living in the Bay Area. I have received my Master's in Classics from UPitt and graduated cum laude from Pomona College with a double major in Classics and Geology. I have taught college-level Latin, semesters 1-3 as a TA and TF in Pittsburgh, as well as courses in classical mythology and Roman civilization.

...My years as an undergraduate and graduate student at UC Berkeley and UC Davis stressed the Socratic method of teaching. That is, the instructor and the student constructively argued his or her points of view, while listening, appreciating, absorbing, and remaining open-minded to adversarial ideas. This is the method I choose for tutoring my students.

...When it becomes clear where the student needs assistance, we get down to work in a spirit of collaboration. While working together, I usually learn much more about the student's aptitudes, including level of knowledge and ability to learn. I take mental notes about how to improve subsequent sessions, often by finding helpful resources.
