Spanish (español)

In 1998 I was planning to go travelling in South America so decided to learn some Spanish. I started with All Audio Spanish, which gave me a good introduction to the language, though I found it quite frustrating searching through the tapes for particular sections. Other textbooks I've used include Sueños World Spanish, Colloquial Spanish, Madrigals Magic Key to Spanish and Breaking Out of Beginner's Spanish.

I can now understand, speak, read and write Spanish to some extent and have a few Spanish-speaking friends with whom I could practice the language if I wanted.

At the moment I'm reading some Spanish short stories in a bilingual (Spanish/English) format. These are helping me to increase my vocabulary and improve my grammar. They are also providing an introduction to the work of a number of Spanish and Latin American authors. I also listen to Spanish language radio regulary and can understand quite a lot.

In November 2005 I spent a couple of weeks exploring Aztec and Mayan sites in Mexico and Guatemala with Explore Worldwide, a company that specialises in small group adventure holidays. There are some photos of this trip in my photo album.
