Russia is inconceivably vast. Its so vast that it would a lifetime of Travel Russia to fathom the richness of its heritage and culture. Understandably, not many would embark on such a journey. However, a few days of travelling would at least let you enjoy a glimpse of that remarkable heritage. That glimpse is enriching enough for a lifetime. Lets start our journey.
Moscow is awe-inspiring. The sense of history and the progression of it are unswervingly orchestrated in the grand locales of the St. Basils Cathedral, Lenins Mausoleum, ancient monasteries, ultra-modern monoliths and, of course, the Kremlin. Moscow is the seat of Russian culture and arts. Most visitors start (and probably should start) their Russian safari here. Apart from the Red Square, the Cultural museums, art galleries and music museums here are a must visit.
The next stop should be St. Petersburg, the second capital of Russia. Its been dubbed the Venice of the North for its
palace-lined waterways. And the architecture is no less rich. Its a wonderful city part fable and part nightmarish. Its heavy with imperial luxuries, heritage and artistic bounty. Hermitage is a must-go and the art gallery there is a must-see. Other places of interest include the Great Statue of Catherine, the Kazan Cathedral, Peter & Paul fortress, St. Issacs cathedral, the Summer garden and the monument of the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad among others. St Petersburg is truly a living monument to the past 300 years of Russia's turbulent history.
Travel Russia on the Trans-Siberian railway is a must. The six-day journey takes you from Moscow to Vladivostok on the Pacific coast, passing through endless forests of birch and pine, log-cabin settlements and vast steppes. Nothing evokes the romance of travelling like the Trans-Siberian Railway.

Moscow and St. Petersburg are well connected to Hong Kong, New York and most European and Asian capital cities.
Russia is also connected to Europe and China by rail. There are limited ferries between Russia and a few European countries, including Germany, Turkey, Finland, Norway and Sweden.
Opt for train travel within the country. Domestic airliners in the country boast of the worst safety conditions in the world. Local buses are now open to all visitors.
Driving around in the country is a bit adventurous. Rugged roads and getting lost once in a while adds to the thrill.
River transport on the Volga and Don remain important. One can go on long rides during the summer.
Winters are terribly chilly. Temperatures could go sub 50 degrees Celsius. Summers, on the contrary, are pleasant. Midsummer sun, in fact, never sets!
Vaccination against diphtheria and hepatitis is advised. Rabies and typhoid is prevalent as well.
All visitors require a visa and getting one might take considerable time. Apply well in advance.
Travel Russia are strongly advised against travel to Chechnya, Dagestan and neighbouring Ingushetia owing to militant activities.
Thats not all. Eating smoked fish by Lake Baikal, the worlds oldest and the biggest freshwater lake, is thoroughly exciting an experience. Also, try bidding Russia farewell on a ferry from Vladivostock. It stretches the Russian experience as far as possible.
