Insurance for international travel
While traveling in a foreign land we are surrounded only by persons from the hospitality industry like flight operators and hotel agents. These are the people we are looking for as long as no unfortunate incident occurs. This unfortunate occurrence may be due to personal reasons or due to a common ground. In either case a smart insurance will take care of various facets of the immediate help and rehabilitation requirement.
If there is an issue due to accident or sudden ill health that call for cancellation or modification of the tour program, the insurance is a sure way to meet the extra expenditure and loss due to any unforeseen circumstances. The best possible medical attention in the country of travel is provided until you recover. Otherwise arrangements are made to immediately repatriate the person. The cost of the insurance depends on your age, types of benefits and special activities you are planning to indulge in.
The cost of hospitalization in most of the countries is very high, as high as $10,000 per day. It is therefore a prudent decision to call up an agency and cover the eventuality by an adequate insurance coverage. You may take the complete addresses of contact persons in the country of visit to call upon in case of an emergency.
There are various grounds on which one may require a medical cover which are mentioned below.
1. Emergency Medical Evacuation Expenses
If you or any covered dependents become sick or injured during the period of coverage and it has been determined by a duly authorized insurance agent or a physician that an Emergency Medical Evacuation is required to either the nearest medical facility, where appropriate medical treatment can be obtained, or to your Home Country, all eligible expenses incurred are covered. Most complete package of short term medical insurance, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation, AD&D and worldwide 24-hour medical and personal security assistance for Americans and foreign nationals living or traveling outside their home countries are available and considered essential. The maximum limit for such expenditure is fixed by the scheme you choose, but can range up to $100,000.
2. Repatriation of Mortal Remains Expenses
If injury or sickness commencing during the period of coverage results in death of the insured, all reasonable expenses incurred for preparation and return of the mortal remains to the Home Country are covered. The scheme can also include the expenditure of a close relative to visit the location and accompany the body back home.
3. Return of Minor Child(ren)
In the case when the insured person is traveling with a Minor Child(ren) and is hospitalized because of a covered illness or injury and the Minor Child(ren) under the age of 18 are left unattended, the insurance shall cover the expense of one way ticket for the Child(ren) to reach the country of origin.
4. Injury and debilitating accident
In the case of organ loss in an accident, the insurance covers the loss by proper compensation depending on the incapacity level. If the accident causes permanent full or partial incapacity from the normal work, then the insurance shall cover the situation based on case by case analysis by experts.
5. Rebellion, Riots and Repatriation
If due to political or military rebellion, or due to riots or other reasons, a disturbance occurs in the host country that may make the travel unsafe, a formal recommendation from the appropriate authority is issued for the insured to leave the host country. In cases when the insured is expelled or declared persona non-grata by the host country, all reasonable expenses incurred for transportation to the nearest place of safety or for repatriation to the insured's home country or country of residence are covered up to a maximum of $10,000. Evacuation costs will normally be paid once per insured per occurrence. In the event this benefit is needed, arrangements must be made by the assistance of the services provider.
6.Trip Interruption
The insurer will pay benefits if an insured is unable to continue the trip due to: a) death, occurring prior to the return to the Insured's Home Country, of the Insureds close relative, b) serious damage to the Insured's principal residence from fire, flood or similar natural disaster (tornado, earthquake, hurricane, etc.). In such cases the trip can be cancelled without incurring any financial loss. This benefit is limited to the cost of one-way economy airfare or ground transportation.
