This island got its name from a Spanish colonial governor general Bernado de Galvez. You can get to this island very easily either by land, sea or air.
Galveston was once the most prosperous city in Texas, it was also the fourth largest city in Texas, but after the deadliest natural disaster struck and devastated the island, everything came to a halt, nearly one-third of the city was completely destroyed. But, to prevent all this from happening again, the city has built a seawall 7 miles long and 17 feet high and has also started a tremendous project of raising the level of the island, and thus once again Galveston became one of the top resort cities.
