Traverse City is a beautiful city located along the Grand Traverse Bay, which is most famous for its 250 miles of the Lake Michigan shore. This city, called by several names like Cherry capital of the world and Queen City of the North, is not the stagnant little town it used to be. It is now a beautiful and modern place, which is rich in culture and history.
Before its transformation Traverse City was a meeting place and hunting ground by its first inhabitants who were the Ottawa, Chippewa and Potawatomi Indians. These three Indian tribes came to be known as the three brothers of Michigan. With the passage of time, the Lumber industry developed rapidly, as English settlers found potential and settled here. During this short lived lumber industry boom, the city of Traverse started taking shape with the construction of homes, school buildings, churches, shops and libraries. Eventually the lumber industry boom came to an end, but the enterprising people of Traverse City decided to plant a cherry tree orchard. This was the birth of the Cherry Capital of the world. By the 1950\'s, Traverse City was world famous for its cherries and the cherry industry found its roots here and made Traverse City the beautiful city it is today.
