The Plus (and really major) Points
? Absolutely fantastic location: Commuting in the Big Apple can really be a nightmare; so staying at a good location is of high priority on any travelers list. This is where the Salisbury Hotel scores over some other hotels.
• Approximately 10-15 minutes walking will bring you to Times Square.
• Two blocks away is the beautiful Central Park. Take the kids to the zoo in the Park premises, enjoy rowing in the lake, go for a romantic ride in a horse-drawn carriage with your sweetheart, have a family picnic in the shade of large trees, go for a jog every morning?plenty to do here!
• You just need to cross the street to attend a musical performance at the Carnegie Hall.
• The famous shopping district of 5th Avenue is less than 2 blocks away.
• When you wish to commute to places some considerable distance away, you can take the subway ? subway stops are a few footfalls from the hotel.
• Other nearby places includes the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Lincoln Center, the Folk Art Museum, the Rockefeller Center, the Time Warner Center, and other well-known sites.
? Smoke from cigarettes won?t smother you, as lighting up is not permitted anywhere in the hotel premises.
? Generally, an air-conditioned room does not allow for opening of the windows. This is extremely annoying when you would like a breadth of fresh air, wish to enjoy the views outside, or want to avoid the noise emanating from an ac unit. No such problem in the hotel rooms here ? you are free to open the large windows anytime.
The Minus (but really minor) Points
? No in-house parking facilities: It is pointless spending dollars on renting wheels, as there is no parking space in the Hotel. You will have to cough up more than $25 (for eve 24hrs.) to park at a nearby garage.
? No in-house dining facilities: There is neither a restaurant nor a bar in the hotel premises. So you have to step out for your meals and beverages. However, you can definitely have delicious continental food that is served buffet style every morning in the breakfast room on the third floor of the hotel.
Note: This breakfast is complimentary to guests till September 3rd 2007.
? No four-legged friends allowed: You will have to leave your pets at home under somebody?s care, as they are not permitted anywhere in the premises.
Expect the Unexpected!
? When you approach the check-in desk of the hotel, you just may faintly hear some lovely singing. That emanates from the choir group fine-tuning their voices. This choir is of the Calvary Baptist Church, proud owners of the Salisbury Hotel who also have their home on a few stories of the hotel. Guests, however, are in no way disturbed by the operations of the Church programs, as these are independent of the hotel?s functioning.
? The rooms are so spacious that you?ll wonder whether you have been given the right room for what you feel is a less amount!
? When you open the doors of the closet to hang up your clothes, you will be stunned to see the really huge space inside ? huge enough for you to step right in!
? Keep your autograph book handy. The guest in the neighboring room could be a well-known artiste who will be performing at the Carnegie Hall!
The Rooms & Rates
? Standard rooms: The cost is $279 - $299 per day (single); $299 - $329 per day (double); $25 for an extra person in the room.

Reaching the Doorstep
So if you are duly impressed and wish to stay at this wonderful hotel, fly down to LaGuardia Airport (LGA), which is the nearest airport (less than 10miles). Farther away is the John F. Kennedy International Airport and the Newark Liberty International Airport ? both these are more than 15 miles from the hotel.
At the airport, get into the yellow cab only. Beforehand, though, it is a sensible idea to find out what are the flat rates, tunnel toll fees, and the tip you need to pay the driver. You can call the hotel itself and ask the very helpful front desk staff about this. An alternate, but more expensive option, is to arrange through the hotel for a private vehicle to pick you up from the airport.
