Bossier City is located in Bossier Parish in Louisiana in the United States. As far as the population of the city is concerned, it was about 56500 as per the census carried out in the year 2000. This city is closely tied to its larger sister City that is Shreveport. The Bossier City is located on the western bank of Red River. The much renowned area called as Shreveport-Bossier Metropolitan area is the center of attraction of the region, which is called as Ark-La-Tex. It is to be noted here that Louisiana is the only state in U.S where the counties are called as Parishes. This name was given under the French and the Spanish rule for the civil as well as for the religious Administration. Bossier city was early incorporated as the Bossier Parish. As far as the history of the city is concerned, the city dates back to 1830s when it was the plantation area of James and Mary Cane comprising Elysian Groves. The steamboats use to carry corn, cotton, and sweet potatoes to the southern and the eastern regions. The boats were loaded from a plantation port called as the Cane ?s Landing. It was during the American Civil war that many of the soldiers left the above port by steamboats for the distant battlefields.
