Belmont ma
Belmont popularly known as "The Town of Homes" is in Middlesex County, Boston. The coordinates of Belmont are 42*23′45″ N, 71*10′45″ W. It is two miles long and two miles wide covering an area of 12.1 Square Kilometer with 0.1 square kilometer as water. It is situated 7 miles from Boston. The neighboring towns include Arlington, Lexington, Waltham, Watertown and Cambridge.
History of Belmont:
The first settlement came as early as 1630. Sir Richard Saltonstall along with 40 families moved to this place to start an agricultural community. They called this place as Pequosette. But soon the name was changed to Watertown
In 1805 Frederick Tudor started cutting ice of the fresh pond. His business grew and he decided to build a railroad from Charlestown to Fresh Pond. The construction of this rail line was completed in 1843.
Later it was extended up to the Town of Belmont. This lead to the increase in population.
In 1850 a group of 1,000 people joined together and announced their desire to have a separate government. Finally after facing lot of opposition from Watertown, Waltham, and West Cambridge the Town of Belmont was born in 1859.The total population of town was 1,175 of whom 170 were registered voters. Belmont ma had lot of fruit farms and market gardens. Produce from Belmont farms was sold at Faneuil Hall market. Belmont became famous celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, berries, and small fruits.
In the 1900's, many artists, authors, educators, physicians, and scientists shifted to Belmont ma and thus the population of town was doubled

It have representative town form of Government with executive authority. The government is divided into two branches Legislative branch and Administrative branch.
Administrative branch have three members elected for three years term. Legislative branch have 288 members.
