Seaford a city located in the western region of the Sussex County by the side of the Nanticoke River, in Delaware. It is a quiet town. The town is on a short drive to a variety of campsites, the eastern shore beaches and the parks. It is the largest city in the County of Sussex. In United States it was selected as the 28th best small town. It is the hometown of many prominent individuals. The population of the city according to the national census of 2006 was 6,997. The city is known for producing great and famous personalities from the field of sports and music.
The land area at the head of the Nanticoke River had been inhabited for long. The first expedition conducted by any European on this land is dated to 1608. Captain John smith who had set out to explore the Chesapeake Bay is said to have explored major part of the Nanticoke River. The progress around the river has taken place at a very sluggish rate. The reason was due to the quarrel between the Nanticoke Indians and the English settlers. But the area flourished as soon as the conflicts were resolved. The very first settlements in the area around Seaford were on a large tract known as martins hundred. The basic industry of the area has been agriculture and in mainly farming of tobacco.
Seaford was a key hub of the east coast crack cocaine distribution, in the late 1980s and the early 1990s. The city is included in the seven main street communities which participated in the Delaware main street program. The historic downtown area of the Seaford has undergone renovations, which has preserved the old fashioned charm of the downtown Seaford. The project included street paving, sidewalks, extensive landscaping lamp post street lights, and utility upgrades. One time the city was gifted with 1400 acres of agricultural land out of which only 20 acres of land is remaining for agriculture.

It was the host city of the Seaford eagles of the eastern shore baseball league.
