The Dewey beach is a merged coastal town in Delaware, Sussex County in the United States of America. According to the estimates of the census bureau of the year 2006, the population of the town of Dewey was only 311. The Dewey Beach was started to be known as a town in the year 1981. The first mayor of the town was Bruce Vavala.
The Dewey beach may not be as extreme as the locales of Cancun or the Panama City Beach, but it has developed repute as a party town. It is most popular in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Washington D.C. areas.
Tourism in Dewey:
Dewey beach is situated on a humble strip of earth lying between the Name Rehoboth Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The length of the beach is one mile, while its width is only two blocks. Despite its small nature and a negligible population, Dewey Beach attracts close to 30,000 tourists in the summer weekends. The main street of the town is lined with various rock clubs and bars. The Bottle & Cork attract the acts that are nationally known. Another popular bar called The Starboard opens in the early mornings. The route encompassing the bars and the clubs is choked on the summer nights, stalling the traffic for hours.
Dewey beach is also a very popular spot amongst the tourists on account of its sandy beaches and the various different hotels, condominiums and cottages that are found on it. The beach is considered as a magnet of sorts for the party goers. The hosting of the music conference of Dewey Beach in the last week of September is also a huge crowd puller. The Greyhounds Reach the Beach is another popular event that is held in the month of October. The Skim boarding championships held in the middle of August is also a democratic event of Dewey Beach.
Rules and Regulations of the Beach:
Listed below are the rules and regulations of the Dewey Beach that the visitors have to follow:
- The patrons and new visitors are requested to check the lifeguard services on the present surf.
- They also have to look at the conditions of the weather.
- In the summer season, the beach is closed during the time of 1.00 am and 5.00 am.
- Surf fishing is not allowed on the beach within hundred feet of the bathers between the time of 10.00 am and 5.00 pm during the summer.
- The use of alcoholic beverages is restricted on the beach during the summer.
- Pet dogs are not allowed on the beach between 9.30 am and 5.30 pm in the summer season. The Dewey beach dog license is mandatory for the dogs. The owners of the dogs have to clean up the dogs waste.
- There is a prohibition on the use of glass containers on the beach.
- Special events such as beach fires are requested to get permit.
- Certain areas have a restriction on playing volleyball.
- Sports activities have a restriction on the weekends.
