Delaware County, New York is a county located in the American state of New York. Based on the 2000 census, the population of the city reached 48,055. The seat of the county is Delhi. Geographically, Delaware County is situated in the southern region of the state segregated from Pennsylvania State by the Delaware River. It is situated to the southwest of Albany and to the east of Binghamton. Part of the Catskill Mountains is contained in the county. It is inside the region of Southern Tier of the state of New York. The summit of Bearpen Mountain is the highest point in Delaware County, New York. On the contrary, the Delaware River is the lowest point. Based on the U.S. Census Bureau, the total area of the county is 3,802 square kilometers of which an area of 3,746 is occupied by land and 56 square kilometer is water.

History of Delaware County:
In the year 1683, with the establishment of the county, the current region of Delaware, New York was partitioned between Ulster Counties and Albany. The county of Albany was enormous and included the present state of Vermont and the northern portion of New York State. It extended to the westward region of the Pacific Ocean. It was only on the 3rd July, 1766 that the size of the county was reduced.
