Lynn ma

Lynn, which is named after King's Lynn (a town in Norfolk, England), was first settled in the year 1629. The shoe-making and tannery industries, which began in 1635, were a major part of Lynn. As a matter of fact, the boots that were worn by the Continental Army soldiers during the Revolutionary War are claimed to have been made in Lynn ma. The shoe-making industry even helped urbanize Lynn in the early nineteenth century (the city seal even features a colonial boot on it to reflect this). Lynn was finally incorporated as a city in 1850.

The northern part of Lynn seemed to be more affluent and well-off than the rest of the city. So on May 21, 1852, that area separated from the city and came to be known as the town of Swampscott. The two cities still continue to have strong ties, even though Swampscott took a more upscale maritime and suburban route, while Lynn went towards an industrial direction.

In spite of industrial expansion as a mill town during the early 20th century, Lynn started to decline during the later half of the century. The city suffered a serious increase in crime during this period.

As a result, Lynn ma earned a taunt to its name, the first half of which is still recognized all through Eastern Massachusetts:

Lynn, city of sin. You never come out the way you went in. Ask for water, they give you a gin. Its the darndest city I ever been in.

As an attempt to improve the city's image, Lynn created an advertising campaign in the early 1990s. This campaign was referred to as the City Of Firsts campaign. And some of the alleged firsts included in this campaign were:

- First fire engine

- First iron works

- First tannery in the U.S.

- First American jet engine

- First dance academy in the U.S.

- First air-mail delivery in the U.S.

- First baseball game under artificial light

- First woman in advertising & mass-marketing (Lydia Pinkham)

But some of these claims couldn't be proved and some

of them were found out to be false. Like, the first air-mail delivery in the United States actually occurred in Long Island and the first baseball game under artificial light supposedly took place in Indiana. And even though the jet engine claim is valid, the engine's design was strongly based on an earlier British design.

A number of development projects helped Lynn ma revive itself during the early 2000s. Industrial buildings that were previously vacant were transformed into loft spaces by real estate developers. These spaces were bought by young home-buyers who wanted the urban lifestyle of proper Boston but couldnt afford the high prices of Boston's upscale neighborhoods such as Boston's South End.

GEOGRAPHY:
