Haverhill pronounced as HAY-vruhl is a city in Essex County, Massachusetts. The geographical locations are 42 46′34″ N and 71 04′40″ W. It covers an area of 92.3 square kilometer with 6 kilometer as water. Haverhill have great location, it is situated on the Merrimack River. The city neighbors are towns of Methuen, Groveland, Boxford, West Newbury and New Hampshire. James J. Fiorentini is the present mayor. City has mayor council city form of government.
Haverhill was first settled in 1640. It was called as Pentucket meaning Land of Winding River. European colonists were the first settlers of Haverhill. It was incorporated in 1870.Agriculture was the main occupation of people. Saw and grill mills were established in 17th century. Tanneries, shipbuilding and boat yard was established in 18th century. Shoe manufacturing has been the leading industry for almost two centuries. It received its name after Haverhill, England.

There is also a John Ward House, Daniel Hankins Shoe Shop and the Duncan House. Here you get information about people and there history. The guided tour is for 45 minutes. The admission charges are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children above 7 years. The entry is closed in winters.
Tattersall Farm:
It is a 150 acre nature conservation area. It is located in North Broadway.
Once it was owned by Tattersall family.The last survivor of family Mary
Alice entrusted this farm to Haverhill. Farm's managerial rights are with
Charitable Foundation Trust.The farm offers miles of area for walking,
jogging and cross-country skiing.
John Greenleaf Whittier Homestead:
This 69 acre property consists of a big house built in 1688 by Thomas Whittier. The five generations of the family lived here. It was the Birthplace of Abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier.It is the setting place for many beloved poems. There is a bridle-post outside for horses. The original barn was burned in 1970. The present barn was moved from a nearby location in 1971. The homestead was purchased by James H. Carleton. He presented it to the Haverhill Whittier Club. Museum events involve a self guided tour of farm and museum known as Freeman memorial trial and Candlelight tour in November. The admission charges are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for 62 and above and for students above 18.
