The Museum of Science – Boston:
The Science Museum is a landmark in Boston and is located in Science Park situated across the Charles River. However, the museum features with over 500 interactive exhibits, a number of live presentations every day and is a component of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA). It houses nearly 100 animals rescued and rehabilitated from various dangerous circumstances. In fact, spending few hours in this museum can well be an exiting experience for everyone. Anyone can touch a lizard, watch chickens hatching, see lightning being created and enjoy hundreds of other exhibits and learn something new about science and technology.
History of the Museum:
The history of the museum goes beyond the 1830 when it began as the Boston Society of Natural History, established by a group of men who wished to share their scientific interest among them. They started the museum merely as a place where they could store and display skins and other trophies of their achievements in traveling to Africa and Asia. However, to this day the museum has developed to a grander stage where it displays a number of taxidermed specimens there by teaching children about the animals of New England and of the world. In this aspect, the Boston Museum of Science performs much similar to that of the American Museum of Natural History in New York, as well as many other museums. It was in 1874, when a building was bought and named as the “New England Museum of Natural History”. Then the museum began to grow more of a Boston Museum of Science and less of a club for safari trophies.
However, the museum after the world war was sold and was re-established under the name "Boston Museum of Science. Then under the leadership of Bradford Washburn, a negotiation was gone with the Metropolitan District Commission for a 99-year lease of the land now known as Science Park. Since then, construction and development process have been carried over during the years of 1948 and 1951. In fact, the museum was then the first all-encompassing Museum of Science in the country. And to this date, the museum has under gone many changes and extensions and has become the nation’s most attractive site to the people around the world with its various added scientific features.
