Loan overseas student
When a person travels overseas he should make sure that it does not affect his loan. He should know what he needs to do before leaving for abroad for his study or work. His repayment obligations, interest charges should be known to him. He can make specific arrangements to make repayments too. However, if he has already traveled overseas without any payment procedure then he has to know the payment penalty details.
There are certain companies and websites which provide assistance to such students. He gets to know how he can arrange for repayments.Firstly he has to inform the Student Loans Company when he leaves his country. He should inform the Company about his plans to work overseas. After which he gets a letter from the Company. The letter provides information as to the confirmation of repayments due to be made. The monthly repayment amounts are noted. It requests information about the income of the applicant if the Company does not have the information.
But if the student is unable to inform the Student Loans Company about his change of place, then he faces trouble. He may be subject to some penalties. He has to contact the Company as soon as possible.
If the student wants to remain overseas, the Company sends him a reassessment form and letter. This is done when the Company gets an assumption that the student will be remaining overseas for many years. If the student returns to the UK without informing the Company then he may end up making more repayments. He has to complete an Overseas Assessment form from the website link provided in the letter. This allows him details about circumstances and prospective income. For this, he has to download an Overseas Assessment Form.
If the student wants to stay outside UK for less than 3 months, then he will be treated as a UK taxpayer. If he returns to UK for less than three months, then he will be treated as an overseas repayer. However, if he exceeds his stay in the UK, the current repayment arrangement gets ended. His status reverts to that of a UK taxpayer.
The student should also contact the Student Loans Company if his income rises or falls. He might be making his repayments towards loan, but the rise or the fall might affect his payment too. The Company, when contacted, reassesses the repayments thus made. Thus a student should know when to make the repayment whenever he is overseas. From overseas he can make repayments of his loans, negotiate the overseas repayments and can also repay his loan faster.
Before going overseas, the student has to also find out what he should do on his part. Every so often, he should be in contact with the Company. Whether he has to make repayments upto 6 months or more than 6 months also counts. For a 6 months period he gets eligible for an interest free students loan. He has to pay the loans while he is staying overseas. He has to pay it before he leaves for overseas. He can even make repayments from abroad. The loan repayment obligation is based on his worldwide income. So he needs to declare his income whenever he earns overseas.
