...Finding the circumference of a circle with a radius of 9 inches sounds boring. But when I ask how far a bike wheel with a radius measuring 9 inches travels in one rotation, the problem becomes interesting. This is the approach I use to make learning more fun and the material more relatable.

...Tutoring/mentoring come naturally to me and I enjoy doing them. When I start tutoring a child, my first approach is to explain basic concepts and patterns where applicable and make sure the child understands the sequence. Next, I give the child a task and encourage him/her to figure things out independently.

...I tutor my high school grand daughter occasionally although she is in honors math. I don't teach techniques but need to understand how your teacher wants you to work a problem. Believe me, even in college, when you hit that wall and nothing seems to work, just having someone explain what you missed in the previous lessons or missed in your note taking is all it takes.

...I have used Microsoft Access pretty much only during my college career, but I have taken a course in Microsoft Office (in which I received a high A), and Access was the biggest part of it. I feel confident that I could teach the basics of Microsoft Access to almost anyone. I use Outlook every day for email and have used it for 3+years now.
