Slovenian to Englich translation

Postby slishdf » Fri 23 Jul 2010 1:12 pm

My father has an old (~100?) decorative wine flask with some writing on it that he thinks is Slovenian. I tried it in some Slovenian translators, but what I get out doesn't make a lot of sense. It may be a local dialect or something that makes it hard to translate. Here is the phrase:

Kdor vinca, petja zensk nemara je v zivljenju uboga para!

I left out the accent marks because I don't know how to put them in.
Can anybody translate this?

Thanks!

Kdor vinca, petja žensk ne mara, je v življenju uboga para!
Whoever doesn't like wine, singing and women is a sore loser in life!

Word breakdown:
'kdor' - relative pronoun
'vince' - diminutive of vino (wine), genitive
'petje' - singing
'ženske' - women
'ne mara' - not like (3rd person singular)
---
'je' - is
'v' - in
'življenje' - life
'uboga para' - sore loser (phrase)

If you are interested in Slovenian language, here is a good collection of Slovenian phrases. Additionally, there is a lot of English Slovenian information, which includes Slovenian pronunciation transliterated (translated) for English speakers, along with a short history of Slovenian language and how to form nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.
