I realised that might be a problem. However, the acute, grave, circumflex, and breve are all tone marks. If those were all gone, it would look rather like Tas.

The diaresis makes o /o/ and u /u/ into ö /ø/ and ü /y/.

Where do the front rounded vowels come from when they appear to be infrequent in the language, and not motivated by a process of vowel harmony or something similar?

Monopthongisation of /eu/, /oi/, /ui/, /oe/, and a bunch more. I can't remember them all. Example, the initial vowel marking causative distant past is öó (supposed to be ö but high tone) from earlier oe. The high tone came by analogy with /é/ and /ó/ as the markers for distant past and causative, respectively. The high tones in the last two came from /eː/ and /oː/, so guess what type of language that means this is...

Why not write these vowels as ǿ and ý? That seems more esthetic.

Um, I don't know. Tonal?

I could do that, but isn't ǿ not supported by many computers? Ý works though, and I should start using it.

And e: and o: are ablaut patterns common to Indo-European languages, which Jinnic (actually, the Anglicised name is Mesis) is.
