Partial raising of low vowel before a high vowel.

Velarization, as I've always understood it, is basically raising the vellum as in [w] or as in a syllable-final [l] in English. I always start with one of those and then try to keep the vellum raised afterwards in order to imitate a velarized consonant.

Doesn't that violate the rule on multiple changes? It looks to me like what you have here is nasalisation of /i/ followed by "unstopping" of /ŋ/.
